It's finally really cold, and the perfect time to cozy up with a big knitting project, and this winter, there are three sweaters I'm super excited about.  Each one offers something different - simple cozy stockinette, interesting colorwork, and stylish tweaks.  Whether you’re looking for a fun challenge or an easy restful knit, I've got you covered.

    1. Hunslet by Martin Storey

Stranded sweater by Martin Storey in Felted Tweed

An elegant design with bold Fair Isle patterning, Hunslet is a cropped cardigan that is both modern and timeless.  Inspired by Welsh blankets, the geometric motifs create a striking design that's interesting and not too hard to knit.

I always say that I'm not too much into stranded colorwork, but this garment changed my mind.  We had this garment at the shop for the trunk show, and it looked amazing on everyone, and has even motivated me to get back into stranded knitting.  I've swatched it up in an alternate colorway and am totally smitten.

    Why I love it:

    • Easy and accessible stranded colorwork
    • So  many color options in Felted Tweed.
    • Flattering V-neck and modern classic silhouette you can dress up or down.

    2. Winterton by Quail Studio

Winterton is a stunning cape cardigan that’s perfect for layering on chilly days. Mode Merino Soft and Mode Alpaca Haze held together create a cozy and luxurious fabric with just the right amount of softness and structure.

There's very little shaping or finishing on Winterton - just a bit of ribbed trim to give it a polished look.

    Why I love it:

    • Effortless and elegant silhouette that's easy to knit and easy to wear
    • Combining two yarns creates a luxurious feel and beautiful drape
    • Simple meditative knit but stylish enough to make a statement

    3. Terrazzo Sweater by PetiteKnit

Okay, so I'm not going to knit another Terrazzo--I've already knit two, but, I am going to take the neck out of the first Terrazzo (above) and change it to the split turtleneck I did on this one:

Terrazzo is a quick knit worked with one strand of silk mohair and one strand of a Silk Garden Sock for a beautifully textured fabric with a lot of drape - even though it's worked at a gauge of 17 stitches per 4 inches. I'm not typically a top-down girl because the fit isn't always what I like, but PetiteKnits seems to be among the best, and I'm super happy with the way this sweater fits.

I try to keep an eye on availability of Silk Garden Sock because their colors are usually out of stock, but I've snagged a quantity of beautiful saturated shades and have put together Terrazzo kits in gorgeous jewel tones for you.

    Why I love it:

    • Top down sweaters with a great fit
    • Easy to modify the neckline, sleeves, length, etc.
    • Quick to knit but still a lightweight and comfortable fabric.

    Which will you choose?

I’ll be chatting more about these designs and sharing my swatches on YouTube live, and I’d love for you to join me!

Which one catches your eye? Are you drawn to the color play of  Hunslet, the cozy elegance of Winterton, or the versatile charm of the Terrazzo Sweater? Let me know in the comments, and be sure to take a look at the kits we have put together for each of these gorgeous designs.

Here’s to a wonderful winter of knitting!

I want to use up some stash to make the Terrazzo with a split neck. I have 6 skeins of Noro Silk Garden Solo #2.

The Winterton is my favorite – for that extra layer I always need for warmth! But I would be happy with any of the three – all great looking sweaters, and something to learn/practice in each. If only I was a faster knitter-still working on my Ludlum!
