There are garments that feel trendy and clever, and then there are garments that feel like they’ve always belonged in your wardrobe. Lova, by Britt-Marie Brehmer, is one of those timeless pieces. It’s simple, elegant, and perfectly wearable in a way that makes you wonder how you ever lived without it.

What makes Lova so special is its quietly thoughtful construction. The shaping is minimal—just enough to give it a graceful A-line swing that skims the body without clinging. It moves with you and flatters without fuss. The raglan shoulder shaping is wide and subtly placed farther out toward the top of the sleeve, which makes the garment feel modern and clean while softening the look across the shoulder line. It’s a beautiful design decision that brings understated sophistication to the whole silhouette.

The Fabric: Light, Breathable, and Refined

Lova is worked holding two strands of fine yarn together: Ito Kinu, a delicate silk, and Ito So Asa, a unique linen/ramie blend. Together they create a fabric that is fluid, drapey, and light as air.

It’s elegant, yes—but not dressy. It looks gorgeous over a silk dress is equally at home paired with slacks or jeans. It’s the kind of effortless piece that fits seamlessly into your everyday wardrobe, adding a touch of grace and polish without asking for much in return.

Flattering for All Ages and Body Types

Whitney and I each tried on the sample, and even though we’re 30 years apart in age, we both loved it. That’s the magic of this design—it’s flattering across ages and body types. Thanks to the generous drape and swingy shape, it works beautifully whether you’re petite, tall, curvy, or anything in between.

Lova is worked top-down, which isn’t usually my go-to construction style. But for this lightweight, drapey fabric, it’s perfect. Plus, it allows you to try on the sweater as you go, making it easy to adjust the length of both the body and the sleeves.

If you’re curious about Britt-Marie and her thoughtful design process, I’m thrilled to share that I sat down with her for a lovely interview, which will air on YouTube this Wednesday. We talked about Lova, her creative process, and what inspires her—don’t miss it!
