There are plenty of yarns out there, and I don’t bring in new yarns casually. Finding Ikigai Fibers at VK Live felt really special. These yarns knit beautifully, have a perfect palette, and are produced with care for the environment–a rare combination I’m more than a little excited about.

This gorgeous yarn line features two key bases—Chibi Paka Chunky and Paka Washi—each with its own unique charm, but both designed with sustainability and ease of care in mind.

If you love the softness and warmth of an alpaca merino blend, these yarns are for you! Let’s take a closer look at each one.

Paka Washi: A sport weight dream for soft, sustainable knitting

Paka Washi is a beautiful sport blend of alpaca and merino, but what makes it truly stand out is the cutting-edge process that allows this yarn to be gently machine washed.

The fibers in Paka Washi undergo an Easy Wash treatment that uses eco-friendly oxidants to prevent wool and alpaca from shrinking when washed in the machine. The process is certified under REACH, Oeko-Tex, and ZDHC (Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals) standards, making it a cleaner, greener choice. You get all the warmth and softness of alpaca and wool, in a machine-washable (cold, delicate cycle, dry flat) yarn that’s gentle on the environment.

    It's all about the Colors

Being eco-friendly is all fabulous, of course, but to be honest, it was the colors that drew me to this yarn line. Let’s talk about the colors! The Paka Washi palette is absolutely dreamy—soft pastels, rich neutrals, and beautifully saturated hues that make it perfect for sweaters, baby garments, and delicate accessories. Whether you’re knitting a classic sweater, a cozy hat, or a sweet baby something, this yarn is both perfect—and practical.

Chibi Paka Chunky: Quick, cozy, and irresistibly soft

For those who love a little more instant gratification, there’s Chibi Paka Chunky, a gorgeous yarn that just feels like a hug.

Merino gives Chibi Paka Chunky beautiful structure and stitch definition while 25% Baby Alpaca makes it lofty and cozy. Whether you’re knitting a snuggly hat or some other quick little confection, Chibi Paka Chunky is one of those yarns you’ll reach for again and again.
