Discover Our Lovely Cotton Yarns: Which One is Right for Your Next Project?
Spring is the perfect time to start thinking about lighter fibers and breezy projects, and at Crazy for Ewe, we’ve curated a collection of gorgeous cotton yarns that are as practical as they are beautiful. Whether you’re knitting for warm weather or just love the feel of cotton, there’s something in this list to inspire your next cast-on.
Rowan Cotton Glace
This is the oldest yarn in the Rowan collection, and with good reason—it’s a classic. What sets it apart is that it’s mercerized, a process developed around 1844 that smooths the fibers, adds luster, and makes the yarn more resistant to shrinking, shedding, and pilling. Mercerization also allows Cotton Glace to absorb dye more deeply, so you get incredibly vibrant colors with a subtle sheen. This sport/light DK weight cotton is a favorite of Kaffe Fassett for colorwork and is beloved by crocheters, too. It wears like iron, making it ideal for garments that will be in regular rotation.
Rowan Summerlite 4-Ply and DK
These are the soft-spoken sisters of the cotton family. Lightly brushed in finishing, Summerlite 4-ply and DK offer a soft hand, smooth finish, and exquisite stitch definition. Their beautiful drape and refined palette make them favorites of designer Georgia Farrell, and they’re perfect for next-to-skin garments and accessories.
Rowan Cotton Trio
Cotton Trio, Rowan’s newest offering, is a textured blend of cotton with a touch of wool and alpaca. Its unique look comes from plied construction—one gently spun cotton ply paired with a much finer strand. The result is a slightly wiggly yarn that, when knitted, yields a smooth fabric with subtle texture. The finer ply adds strength while keeping the overall fabric soft and wearable. It’s a modern, fun yarn that surprises you in the best way.

Rowan Cotton Cashmere
Cotton Cashmere is a soft and luxurious blend with a generous dose of cashmere for a delicate matte finish. The cotton is minimally processed, which preserves softness while keeping the yarn light enough for larger garments. It has excellent stitch definition and is perfect for year-round wear.

Rowan Handknit Cotton
This worsted weight yarn is tightly twisted and durable. Rowan Handknit Cotton knits up between 18–20 stitches per 4 inches and is ideal for tanks, tees, and smaller garments. Its structure holds shape well, though it can feel heavy in full sweaters or projects with complex stitchwork.
Mode Cotton DK
Mode Cotton DK is Mode’s debut cotton yarn—lightweight, gently twisted, and similar in feel to Summerlite DK. It offers excellent value and quality with a lovely hand, making it a smart choice for warm-weather sweaters and accessories.
