While cruising the Rowan site, I ran across two scarves using gorgeous Colourscapes Chunky.  This first one, designed by Kaffe Fassett and Brandon Mably, is worked in stockinette with a garter stitch border.  A bit reminiscent of Jared Flood's famous scarf, it's not as thick as if it were worked in ribbing, and it definitely has a right and a wrong side.  I think it's got a great casual appeal and would look fabulous on a guy.  You can get the free pattern right here.  Feel free to play with the stitch pattern - you work a broken rib (Row 1: k1, p1  Row 2: knit) or you could work the whole thing in 1x1 ribbing. Takes one skein each of two different colors of Colourscapes Chunky and knits on 10.5 needles

The next one is a bit more feminine, although, part of that is just because of the girly colors used in the sample. It looks kind of braided but that effect is actually achieved with a giant stockinette cable.  I love this so much. It would be as much fun to knit as it would be to wear - and what great colors. It's a free pattern too, takes 2 skeins of Colourscapes Chunky, (whatever color you like) and works up quickly on size 10.5 needles!

Either of these scarves would be perfect travel projects and mindless enough to knit while you visit.
