Gauge: 14 sts and 26 rows to 10cm/4ins square over garter stitch using 5mm (US 8) needles
Instructions: With 5mm (US 8) needles, cast on 43 stitches Starting with a knit row, continue in garter stitch until cuff measures 6¾ins (4¾ins) from cast on edge, ending with a wrong side row.
Inc row: k5, *increase by knitting into front and back of next st, k2* Repeat between *s to last 5sts, k5. 54sts.
Pattern Row 1: k2, *[k2tog, yrn]twice, k1, [yrn, k2togtbl]twice, k1 rep from * to last 2sts, k2
Pattern Row 2: k2 purl to last 2sts, k2
These 2 rows form the pattern stitch. Cont in pattern stitch until work measures 25½ins (22½ins) from cast on edge, ending with a wrong side row. Starting with a knit row, decrease 5 stitches by knitting two stitches together evenly across row. Continue in garter stitch until work measures 32½ins (27¼ins) from cast on edge, ending with a wrong side row.. Bind off. Fold edges of shrug in half lengthwise and sew together garter stitch cuff.
