This little tank knits up fast on big needles in a wonderful, chunky cotton blend.  Looks great by itself or layered over camisole or a crisp white blouse. 

Finished Measurements:
Bust: 33 (37, 41) inches

Size 10 1/2  (6.5 mm) needles
Tapestry needle

Gauge: 12 sts & 16 rows = 10cm/4” in Stockinette stitch (St st)

 

Instructions:  Front and Back (both alike):
Cast on 48 (54, 60) stitches and work even in St st for 2”, ending with a wrong side (WS) row. Begin waist shaping: Right side (RS): Decrease 1 stitch each end of this row, and then every other RS row twice . Work even on 42(48, 54) stitches until piece measure 5” from cast on, ending with a WS row. RS: Increase 1 stitch each end of this row and then every other RS row 3 times 50 (56, 62) stitches. Work even until piece measures 10 inches or desired length to underarm, ending with a WS row.

Shape armhole: Bind off 4 (5, 6) sts at beginning of next 2 rows, then decrease 1 st each side every other row 3 (4, 5) times as follows: (RS) K1, P1, SSK, knit to last 4 sts, k2tog, P1, K1 (WS) P1, K1, purl to last 2 sts, K1, P1 Shape neck: (RS) Keeping first and last 2 stitches of every row in 1x1 rib as established, work 10 stitches, join a second ball of yarn and BO center 16 (18, 20) stitches purlwise, and work to end. Working both sides at the same time, decrease 1 stitch at neck edge every RS row 5 times until 5 stitches remain at each shoulder. Work even in 1x1 rib until armhole measures 6 1/2 (7, 7 1/2) inches. Ending with a WS row. Bind off all stitches. Finishing: Block pieces to measurements; sew shoulder and side seams.

This is a very easy pattern to modify! You can choose 2 or 3 coordinating yarns and work a single row of each. You could also work the pattern in a half linen stitch. This is the perfect, small project for letting yourself play with color, stitch patterns, and texture combinations!
